Winnipeg Blue Bombers Grey Cup Odds 2017

Blue Bombers Odds To Win The Grey Cup

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers snapped a four-year playoff drought in 2016 but lost to the BC Lions in their first playoff game. Their 11-7 record was their best since winning 11 games in 2003. The Blue Bombers have struggled over the last eight season, making only two playoff appearances in that timeframe and winning exactly one playoff game. However, after years of mediocrity, the Bombers future looks hopeful. Head coach Mike O’Shea is entering his fourth year in Winnipeg and has done a great job building his team. The offseason saw the majority of additions on the defensive side of the ball, where they already were strong – ranking third in points allowed in 2016.

While the Blue Bombers look to have the pieces to compete – though considerably more are on the defensive side of the ball - expectations in Winnipeg for 2017 are moderate at most. After their best regular season in over a decade, the team’s goal this season is to take a positive step forward in the playoffs. A trip to a division final would be good enough for most Winnipeg fans and would set the team up for even greater success in 2018. With that said, some luck and strong quarterback play from Matt Nichols could help the Blue Bombers snap their five-game Grey Cup losing streak and give the franchise its first Cup since 1990.

    Sports Interaction Grey Cup Outright

At +750 odds to win the Grey Cup, the Blue Bombers are tied with Saskatchewan for the worst Grey Cup odds in the Western Division. Still, they are not a complete underdog in 2017. Their biggest competition in the West – the Calgary Stampeders – will have a difficult time matching their 2016 regular season. A Stamps decline to 12 wins in 2017 will open up the Western Division. If Winnipeg’s defense can be as good as predicted, and Matt Nichols continues to improve in his second season as a starter, they may climb to the top of the West are a savvy pick at +750.

    Winnipeg Blue Bombers 2017 Schedule

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers season opens on the road on July 1 at 9:00 PM EST against their greatest rival the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Blue Bombers are the last team to start their season in 2017, as they begin the 2017 regular season on a bye week, which gives them a leg up against the Roughriders, even though they are on the road.

After opening the season on the road, the Blue Bombers play three of their next four games at home. What follows those four games is the Blue Bombers most difficult stretch of the season. The Bombers play four of their five games from week 7 to 11 on the road, with their only home game coming just five days after a trip to Hamilton. The remainder of the schedule for the Blue Bombers is manageable. Their biggest remaining games after week 11 are two home games – one on week 17 and the other on week 19 – against the BC Lions. The Blue Bombers finished one win behind the BC Lions in 2016, and these two games could potentially decide which team gets to host a playoff game and which team has to play on the road.
