Boxing : Fury vs Klitschko 2 Postponed

Boxing : Fury vs Klitschko 2 Postponed

The highly awaited rematch between new heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury and former champion, Wladimir Klitschko will have to wait. Fury reinjured his ankle while training and was advised by his physicians to stay out of the fight. The rematch, which was originally scheduled for July 9 in Fury’s hometown of Manchester had already sold over 14,000 tickets. As of this article, October 29 is being billed as the rematch date although conflicting reports say otherwise. Klitschko himself has come out to say he doesn’t know the exact date for the rematch.

Tyson Fury Injured Before The Rematch

Fury had the performance of his life in outboxing Klitschko. Despite being as big as a 5-1 underdog, Fury used his movement, feints and higher activity level to confound the powerful Ukrainian champion who hasn’t tasted defeat in over a decade. Klitschko ruled the heavyweight division unchallenged. His powerful left hook and straight right hand were ineffective for the most part and it added to Fury’s pre-fight trash talk that Klitschko was getting old. Whether this was an aberration or the start of the former champion’s decline will have to wait as Fury nurses his busted ankle, which may take as long as seven weeks.

“Ten days ago, while running in the Lake District, I went over on my ankle and sprained it,” Fury explained himself. “I’ve been to the hospital, had X-rays, scans and all that stuff. They said it’s not broken but it’s badly sprained and I should keep off it for six to seven weeks.”

Fury posted pictures of his swollen, blackened ankle on social media, which he has also used to prominence particularly in starting or responding to trash talk from the opposition. The British pugilist has not been shy about airing his views and he has constantly been dinged by news outlets for his opinions, which sometimes come off as racist and homophobic. Klitschko most recently made Hiter-like comparisons against Fury, which truly offended the self-styled “Gypsy King”.

“Wladimir obviously has no education on the matter as he doesn’t realise that Hitler killed hundreds of thousands of gypsies, if not millions," Fury responded in a video he posted. “To call me that is a very, very bad insult because a lot of my ancestors were killed and murdered by Hitler. For you to call me that is a very bad insult. Let’s not forget that your people, the Ukrainians, were the guards of the death camps where my people were slaughtered.

It's a shame now that things are really heating up between the two that fans and gamblers have to sit and wait but knowing Fury, we have not seen the last in the war of words. Fury will stay active in social media while he rehabilitates his bum ankle while Klitschko likewise has not been shy in exchanging barbs as his Hitler comments suggest. Fury’s promoter, Mick Hennessy expressed his disappointment likewise.

“It’s very unfortunate at this crucial stage of Tyson’s preparations that this injury has occurred with just a couple of weeks to go,” Hennessey said. “There was no way Tyson could go into the fight against Wladimir Klitschko less than 100 percent fit.

Tyson Fury vs Wladimir Klitschko Full Highlights

Fury was a big underdog against Klitschko for their first fight but bookies have lined their rematch at pick’em odds. If the dominant version of Klitschko shows up and sets the pace early with his power shots, he could recapture his title but if he really shows his advanced age at 40, Fury could have another decisive victory. The braggadocio is 13 years the junior of Klitschko who has also reportedly dealt with personal. The time off could be beneficial for both boxers as they get to sharpen their physical and mental prowess as the lucrative rematch draws towards year’s end.
