Los Angeles Kings vs Edmonton Oilers Cup Champs Face Must Win Situation

Los Angeles Kings vs Edmonton Oilers Cup Champs Face Must Win Situation
Although there are several ways Los Angeles can still make the National Hockey League postseason, even with just three games remaining, the Kings basically need to win out. The first step is in Edmonton against the lowly Oilers tonight. Puck drop for this NHL Pacific Division duel is scheduled for 9:30 PM on April 7, 2015, at Rexall Place in the Alberta Capital.

Kings need wins and some help to attend the playoff party

While defending a pro sports championship is difficult in any sport, retaining the NHL Stanley Cup is one of the toughest grinds of all. Winning the Cup is an afterthought for the Kings right now as Los Angeles isn’t even assured a playoff position at this point. The Champs have a couple paths open as they trail Calgary by a tiebreaker in the race for third in the Pacific. A Western Conference Wild Card spot is also possible as the Kings are one point behind Winnipeg in that race.

Already in playoff mode the defending Cup Champs have been on a solid recent run

Los Angeles has been in playoff mode for about a month now and they have secured at least one point in 13 of their last 17 games. A 2-1 shootout loss in Vancouver last night was costly as the Kings could have passed Calgary with a victory. Prior to that, LA recorded home wins versus Colorado (3-1) on Saturday and pummeled the Oilers 8-2 on Thursday. In addition to the blow out in Socal, Edmonton also dropped a 5-1 decision to the Ducks and were shutout 4-0 at home by the Flames during their last three games. Edmonton may just mail this one in against the physical Kings.

Oiler vs Kings Call: While the Oilers may be looking for revenge, we don’t see them having the horses to stay with the Champs tonight. Los Angeles has won ten of the past 12 meeting between these clubs and their last three wins have been by a 19-5 margin including a 5-2 win in Alberta on March 3, 2015. We are cruising with the Champs here and a 300 unit wager on the puck line price posted on the betting board at the William Hill sportsbook.
