New York City Record

Joining the league in 2015, the New York City FC play in the Eastern Conference, helping even out each side with ten teams. The club’s first season was mediocre, which is commonplace for expansion franchises. The club did manage to avoid a last place finish ending the 2015 season eighth in the East and 17th overall. The club made some quick changes after their first season, specifically hiring a new manager.

The New York City FC play at Yankees City – which was completed in 2009 at a cost of $2.3 billion making it the time the most expensive stadium ever constructed. The large size of the stadium allows for a capacity of over 30,000 fans. The capacity of the stadium can be expanded to almost 50,000. Once the team reaches a high and consistent level of competitiveness expect the environment to be one of the best in the MLS.

The biggest rival of the team is the other New York City club the Red Bulls. The Red Bulls swept the team’s first three meetings, but this rivalry should blossom as the New York City FC grows stronger. The fans in the rivalry already hate each other with fights breaking out between fans of each team. In their first season, New York found their greatest success against the Toronto FC winning twice with the other match ending in a 4-4 draw.
