New York Red Bulls Record

The New York Red Bulls are one of Major League Soccer’s founding member and an important part of the leagues lasting success.

Through their twenty plus years of play, the Red Bulls have not been able to capture a MLS Cup, with 2008 being their best season – where they lost in the finals 3-1 to the Columbus Crew. Before the 2008 season the Red Bulls had failed to get passed the quarter-finals each season they qualified for the playoffs. Since 2008 the Red Bulls have been more successful, including three first place finishes in the East and a handful of playoff victories. Even with their improved play, they still are searching for their first MLS Cup.

The biggest rival of the Red Bulls is D.C United. United and the Red Bulls compete for the Atlantic Cup, a trophy awarded to the winner of the regular season series. In the early years D.C dominated the rivalry – including multiple stretches of seven plus games where the United where undefeated. Since 2010 however the rivalry has been much more balanced with the Red Bulls beginning to take the edge in the series in the midst of the 2013 season. Other rivals of the Red Bulls include the New England Revolution, Philadelphia Union and the upstart New York City FC. Though the team does not have an official rivalry with the Columbus Crew, they have suffered maybe their two most heartbreaking losses against them.

The club plays in Red Bull Arena – located in Harrison New Jersey which is West of Lower Manhattan and just across the river from Newark. The location allows for a diverse group of fans and turns the stadium into an electric atmosphere when the Red Bulls plays, especially because of the 11,000 season ticket holders – with the stadium having a maximum capacity of slightly more than 25,000.
