The NHL’s Metropolitan division is loaded with individual stars like Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Claude Giroux, John Tavares, and Henrik Lundqvist. Since this division was formed during realignment prior to the 2013-14 season we’ve had three different division winners as Pittsburgh, the New York Rangers, and Washington all claimed the crown. During that time it’s been the general assumption that the Metropolitan division is the better of the two in the Eastern Conference with all the star power they’ve got, and that creates tremendous interest in all eight of these teams each year. With that, online NHL Metropolitan betting gets plenty of attention at sportsbooks as bettors want to cash in on the great play!

NHL Metropolitan Betting Lines

NHL Metropolitan betting lines offer some good value throughout the year, especially when the better teams in this division meet up. You generally won’t find these rivals dominating one another throughout the year, so keep that in mind when handicapping the games.

How To Bet On NHL Metropolitan Division

The Rangers and Capitals not only won this division the past two years, but they also were able to capture the President's Trophy in those respective seasons. NHL bettors can use that information in their handicapping as it shows that at times this division can be more “top-heavy” than others in the league as the top teams in the Metropolitan typically take care of business against their weaker division rivals. That may not always be the case, but it's tough to argue with the fact that there will be a team or two in this division every year that will struggle to win games.

That idea is not too surprising when you consider that Ovechkin and Crosby dominate the headlines for this division and their respective teams are always near the top of the division standings. Those two guys have been the face of the NHL for the better part of a decade, thus the Penguins and Capitals will receive their fair share of inflated moneylines throughout the course of a year.

However, those NHL bettors looking to play the puck lines on games (+/- 1.5), can find some great results from teams in this division. In the 2015-16 regular season, five of the top 10 teams against the puckline spread came from the Metropolitan division, and not all of them finished with a winning record. Washington, Carolina, NY Rangers, New Jersey, and Philadelphia finished with a combined profit of $3676 for $100/game bettors on their respective pucklines.

That is quite the profit margin over the course of a season and it tells bettors that while the Metropolitan might be considered “top heavy”, these teams play plenty of close games and know how to turn a profit for NHL bettors.
