    My Team's Next Match

Each time the Ottawa Senators make it into the playoffs no one seems to notice but taking on perennial Stanley Cup contenders in the Boston Bruins will change that.

The Sens finished 44-28-10 finishing in the top ten in goals against despite weak five-on-five play mostly thanks to Craig Anderson. The 35-year-old is possessed although the Bruins have been on an offensive tear since switching coaches. The Sens swept the Bruins 4-0 in the regular season but the games were close as this series will be.

The Bruins are a trendy pick not just to win this series but go deep into the playoffs thanks to going on a late run, 18-8-1 since Bruce Cassidy took over the fired Claude Julien as head coach. Their offense improved dramatically scoring four or more goals in half their games under Cassidy.

Forward Brad Marchand has evolved from a talented goal-scoring pest to an MVP candidate who finished fourth in goals scored (85). On defense, stalwart Zdeno Chara anchors the defense while Tuuka Rask is getting hot at the right time. He finished strong with a .925 save percentage in his final 20 games but Ottawa's Craig Anderson finished with a .926 for the whole season.

He's a reason the Sens swept the Bruins posting a .946 save percent with 1.47 goals allowed in four victories this season. He'll again be carrying the load of stopping the puck especially with leading defenseman Marc Methot still nursing an injury. Mark Stone is blossoming into a fine player in Marchand's mold and two-time Norris winner Erik Karlsson is not to be forgotten.

Statistics are specific. The Bruins rank much higher than the Sens in Powerplay %, Penalty Kill % (they lead the league in this category) and total goals scored. In their four meetings, the Bruins even outshot the Senators 166-159, and had a more effective powerplay.

They were the better team but the Sens won thanks to their goalie and team MVP, Craig Anderson. Odds are against Anderson stonewalling the Bruins for four games but heroism is a common theme in the NHL playoffs and Anderson is that guy for the Sens.

    Boston Bruins (-175)

Ottawa vs Boston Game 6 Prediction

Simply put, the Bruins wanted it more and played more efficiently especially in overtime. The visiting team kept pushing the Sens back to their own zone and nearly scored on multiple occasions including a controversial goalie interference call that cancelled a potential game-winner.

Heading to Boston, the Sens will once again need to stifle the Bruins forecheck and keep composed. They let game 5 slip away and the Bruins have all the momentum now. All five games have been decided by a goal. Expect another close one here as the more physical Bruins team edges the Sens again.

    NHL Playoff Picks Tonight

The Sens weren't the only Canadian team who came out losers. Their division rivals, the Maple Leafs (+125) also lost a heartbreaker in Washington as they become one game away from elimination. The Leafs will play the evening game at 7:00 PM ET in a do-or-die game in front of another sellout Air Canada Centre. They might have one comeback left in them as they hope to push the series to a climactic seventh game.
