Bundesliga Picks: Season re-opener best bets

We look through the Bundesliga picks with the same raised brows as the rest of the planet on Germany. The country's top professional association football league becomes the first to restart competition amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Bayern Munich is all but a runaway favourite in the books (via SportsInteraction (SIA)):

61 days: the number of days the Bundesliga suspended its season Bundesliga 2019/20: quick facts

    • Bayern Munich: the first-placed team in the league with 55 points in 25 games
    • 13 games: the average amount of games left per team
    • SC Paderborn 07: the last-placed team in the league with 16 points in 25 games
    • Robert Lewandowski: the top goalscorer in the league with 25 goals

But with the Coronavirus disrupting the norm including barring fans from attendance, could this season have some surprises?

    Let's look at the odds.

Bundesliga picks: best bets for season re-opener

Borussia Dortmund v FC Schalke 04 - Borussia Dortmund to win (1.52)

Dortmund has some good value here as the best home team this season (9-3). They've only allowed 10 goals in 12 home games while Schalke is just 4-4-4 on the road, 10th-best in the league. They may only be a few spots apart in the standings, but the gap between them is quite large. Dortmund wins this handily.

    FC Union Berlin v Bayern Munch: Goals over/under - Under 3.5 (1.65)

With the COVID-19 pandemic not only ceasing the season but keeping most players out of the football flow, expect some rust from both teams. Even the mighty Bayern Munch might take time to start. They'll win easily, but scoring over three goals in their first game back from two months might be asking too much.

    Bundesliga 2019/20 - w/o FC Bayern Munich - RB Leipzig (1.99)

Timo Werner has been on a roll as the league's second-leading scorer and so has Leipzig. They're only a point behind Borussia Dortmund and have a slightly better goal differential. Most importantly, Dortmund will still play Bayern while Leipzig has a few more softies on the schedule.

Bundesliga schedule: top match-ups to look out for

Even though it's a given that Bayern Munich is going to run away with their eighth consecutive title, there are still plenty of games left to get excited over in the remaining Bundesliga schedule.

Bayern Munch v Borussia Dortmund (May 25, 26)

"Der Klassiker" returns with the German giants colliding for the 126th time. Bayern has historically dominated Dortmund having won 48 of their 103 meetings in the Bundesliga. Robert Lewandowski continues to shred Dortmund having tallied 22 goals, the most by a player in this "rivalry".

RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund (June 20)

This is the likely battle for second place as both Leipzig and Dortmund are neck-and-neck in the standings. Contested in the Red Bull Arena, this could Leipzig's chance to seal their place as this takes place as the second-last match of the season. With plenty at stake, expect this to be a tense match-up.
