UFC 246 odds: Bet big on McGregor
Conor McGregor is one of those people you either love or love to hate whether you’re a hardcore UFC fan or just a casual. But one thing lovers and haters can agree on: the man is a damn good fighter. And so is Cerrone. But McGregor has numerous advantages here.
Firstly, McGregor won’t be as rusty as he was against Nurmagomedov. He spent a considerably longer layoff there (boxing is not MMA). He’s only a year removed from his loss to the Russian and has kept in shape even if his off-cage issues have cast a dark shadow over him.
McGregor had the loss to Nurmagomedov to work his rust off. He’ll be snappier here and against a slow starter like Cerrone, it’s an even better situation. There’s a reason he took this fight. He’ll be the fresher fighter as Cerrone is an old 36 and is coming off two hellacious TKO losses.
Cerrone is dangerous both on his feet and on the ground. McGregor hasn’t fought many strikers who are as versatile and experienced as this Cowboy. But his fading durability coupled by his knack for absorbing shots to the face are recipes for another knockout loss.
Fans will primarily be on Cowboy’s side. But McGregor will breaking their hearts and his face. Come Saturday, January 18, Jon Anik will proudly be crying, “Conor McGregor is back!”
Pick: McGregor by T/KO
UFC picks: Best prop bets
Piggyback off your “McGregor to win” predictions and cash in on some prop bets while you’re at it. Here are the top UFC picks as far as propositions go:
Fight doesn’t go to decision – 1.29
This is a shameless chalk play, but it’s obvious. Both of these fighters are finishers and while they’re both made of iron, their proclivity at ending fights is just too good to ignore.
McGregor wins by TKO/KO – 1.73
McGregor either wins by decision or by knockout. With five rounds and with Cerrone’s chin not what it once was, it’s more likely McGregor pounds the nails on his coffin before the final bell.
Cerrone wins by submission – 7.00
If you want to hedge or be a contrarian, this is the prop bet to make. McGregor’s kryptonite is his grappling and Cerrone is an underrated grappler who has 17 submissions to his name. It could happen!
