Golden State vs Cleveland Game 2 Preview

It was a case of deja vu as Golden State opened the NBA Finals with a rout over the visiting Cavaliers, the defending champions. The Warriors won to the tune of 22 points thanks mainly to the one-two punch of Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. Curry and Durant combined for 66 points on 52% shooting. Curry was in full chef mode cooking up six three-pointers that helped distance the Warriors beginning in the third. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving combined for 52 points in a losing effort. They look to get even Sunday.

      POINT SPREAD MONEYLINE OVER/UNDER
    Cleveland  +9.0 (-110)  +315  o221.5 (-110)
    Golden State  -9.0 (-110)  -405  u221.5 (-110)

In an epic clash of super teams, the home team Warriors knocked the Cavaliers out. It was a battle between Curry and KD and James and Irving and the new star duo won. Last year, the Cavs managed to shut Curry down without Durant and two healthy. With Curry at full health and the added threat of Durant, the Warriors look primed to win their championship back as James looks to elevate his entire team's performance or find ways to neutralize one of Curry or Durant. Or both.

The Warriors as a team, however, didn't shoot very well. Taking out Curry and Durant, the Warriors only shot 34.5 percent from the field as no other Warrior hit double digits including the likes of Klay Thompson going 3 for 16 (18.8%) and Draymond Green going 3 for 12 (25%). Yet the Warriors won comfortably because either Curry or Durant or even Thompson have shown that game-dominating ability with their streaky shooting. A game 1 home win was all formalities and they'll look to keep the pressure on.

The Cavaliers drop to 0-3 in game 1s of the NBA Finals but James hasn't won a game 1 since the 2011 NBA Finals leaving him with one game 1 win in eight NBA Finals appearances. James has won every game 2 after a loss (except last year) but it was closer than the first. The entire Cavs team will have to show up. Key players like Tristan Thompson, Deron Williams, and Kyle Korver can't be held scoreless again. It'll take a team effort to cool off Curry and Durant.

Lesson learned. The Cavaliers (+315) will be juicy underdogs again, the biggest they have been all season long with a full roster thanks to getting blown out. The Warriors (-405) could cool off and the Cavs could get hot but that could be in Cleveland as the duo of Curry and KD might just be too much and their other stars like Thompson and Green can still play better. It may not be another blowout but the Warriors will win again though 4-1 is quite a steep price.

The NBA's money line tends to be a case of high-risk low-reward or taking blind shots at big underdogs. In this case, it could be better to just play the point spread or the over/under, where the odds are 50/50. These are standard ways to bet NBA as offered by the best sportsbooks. The point spread evens out the difference by setting "spreads" for both favourite and underdogs to "cover".

A -9.0 spread means the team (the favourite) has to win by over 9 points to cash (9.0 is deducted from their final score). Meanwhile, +9 indicates a team can lose by up to 9 points to cash. Or they can win outright (9.0 is added to their final score). In the case they win or lose by 9 exactly, it is a "push" (you get your money back). Last game, the Warriors covered their -7.0 spread by winning by 22 points. The spread is bigger corresponding to steeper money line odds.

The over/under or "totals" is an alternative betting option letting you bet on whether the Warriors' and Cavs' combined score goes over or under the oddsmaker's total: 221.5. Last game, the winning bet was the under. The 113-91 final totaled 204, which was well below the 225.5. The total score increases or decreases corresponding to which side gets action. Conventional wisdom dictates betting the under can be more profitable as casual gamblers enjoy betting for high-scoring games.

signup bonus of up to $200 is offered in many sportsbooks giving some leeway to new players to try out these different betting methods. Keen insight is paramount to success in gambling but experience also plays a big role.
