Golden State vs Cleveland Game 3 Preview

The Warriors moved to 2-0 in the NBA Finals and 14-0 overall in the playoffs looking as unstoppable as ever. LeBron James put up his numbers but the Cavaliers just couldn't quite keep up with Golden State's hot shooting. The Warriors improved from an overall lackluster shooting performance from game 1 and nailed 51.7% of their field goals in a higher scoring and faster-paced game. Golden State is now just two games away from reclaiming the NBA championship as James and the Cavs desperately need to win game 3.

      POINT SPREAD MONEYLINE OVER/UNDER
    Cleveland  +4.0 (-110)  +140  o226.5 (-110)
    Golden State  -4.0 (-110)  -165  u226.5 (-110)

So much for the hotly anticipated rematch. The Cavaliers pulled off an inspiring comeback last year by being the first team to come back from a 3-1 series deficit to capture their first title but it has been all Golden State this year. Maybe the Cavs can take solace in the fact they also started 0-2 last year but these last two blowouts have been telling as the addition of former MVP Kevin Durant has seemingly pushed the Warriors to an unreachable level.

The Warriors aren't just on pace to win their second NBA championship in three years but potentially become the first NBA team to go 16-0 in the playoffs putting them in the stratosphere as far as great NBA teams are concerned.

Durant and Steph Curry did their part filling up the stat sheet - KD had a double-double while Curry had a triple double - but the reemergence of Klay Thompson (22 points on 66.7% shooting) also helped the Dubs as it was their offense that shined this time.

Cleveland has a lot to think about and not even another stellar performance from James (29 pts, 11 rebs, 14 asts) saved them from the shellacking. Kyrie Irving (19 points on 34.8% shooting) and the rest of the squad will have to play better. The likes of Deron Williams, J.R. Smith, and Tristan Thompson still need to step up while the team learns how to defend KD and Curry while maintaining the same breakneck pace from the previous game. It's all-or-nothing for game 3.

Coming back fro ma 3-1 deficit is one thing but 3-0 is pushing it. LeBron James has been doing everything in his power to help his team match the Warriors but exchanging offense hasn't worked thus far. The Cavs will play desperately and get rough with the Warriors. They'll need to contain KD and Curry or face oblivion. History supports the Cavs as most teams down 0-2 win game 3 at home in the Finals. The Cavs will continue this trend and cool the Warriors long enough to edge a win.

    Cleveland Cavaliers (+140) PLAY NOW

Had you bet the Warriors on the money line twice in a row, you could have won $200... if you risked over $800. A win is a win but if you played the Warriors on the point spread, it would've only taken $220 to win the same amount of money. The money line is the easiest to understand and the most straightforward bet you can make. But the point spread allows you to get more bang for your buck. The over/under is another bet that can yield the same returns.

Online sportsbooks all offer the point spread, which is how oddsmakers even the odds between the favourite and underdog by setting points for each team to "cover". In this case, -4.0 indicates the Warriors need to win by more than 4 points to cash as 4.0 is subtracted from their final score. The +4.0 on the Cavs on the flipside gives them up to 4 points to lose by as 4.0 is added to their final score. In the event either team ties their spread, the bet is "pushed" (money returned).

An alternative is to be the over/under, which lets you bet whether the combined score between the Warriors and Cavs will go over or under oddsmaker's score of 226.5. So far, the under cashed in game 1 while the over cashed in game 2. Conventional wisdom dictates betting the under as the over tends to get more action for newbies but it's best to do research and go with your gut. A signup bonus of up to $200 gives you extra cash to test your skills.
