MLB Canadian Catcher Plays His Contract Year In The Bronx
Canadian Kid Makes It Big In The Major Leagues
Martin was born in East York, Ontario, which is now part of the greater Toronto area, and grew up in the Montreal area. He arrived in big leagues via little known Chipola College in Marianna, Florida.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers (17th round 2002 MLB Draft) Martin became an everyday starter for the National League club at the beginning of the 2006 MLB season. While Martin enjoyed a ton of success, both defensively and offensively, in his first three seasons with the Dodgers, he slumped the next two years and Los Angeles didn’t renew his contract prior to the 2011 campaign. Bring on the big bucks – of the Big Apple.
