NFL Wildcards: The quest for Superbowl 53 begins

NFL Wildcards: The quest for Superbowl 53 begins

The NFL Playoffs have arrived. And from an online betting perspective what the NFL Wildcard weekend offers us is the ability to focus on one thing at a time.

None of the games overlap, so you don't have to constantly check NFL scores and Live Odds on multiple games at a time. You can eat one meal, then concentrate on the next meal once it's finished, and all 4 of the games this weekend look tasty.

So let's go in order and see where if we can find some early big scores for 2019.

    Colts vs Texans

    Saturday January 5th, 4:35pm EST

This was a game that we thought we'd never see after the first month of the season. The Houston Texans started the season 0-3 and the Indianapolis Colts started the season 1-5. Teams that come out of the gate that poorly are not supposed to make the playoffs. But both franchises became scorching hot and here we are.

I love the Colts in this one and here's why. From week 11-16 they rank 3rd overall in total team DVOA, while the Texans are 18th, and by DVOA the Texans Offensive Line ranks last in terms of pass protection, while the Colts are 3rd. So while the Texans pass rush is what wins them a lot of games, the Colts can stifle them and give Andrew Luck the time to make more plays than Deshaun Watson will have.

PICK: COLTS +2.5 on SportsInteraction (-110)

    Seahawks vs Cowboys

    Saturday January 5th, 8:15pm EST

This one is really close. And I really want to back the Cowboys in this one. The problem is we have two franchises who are polar opposites in this scenario.

Until the Jason Garrett, Dak and Zeke Cowboys win a playoff game it's difficult to back them.

The Pete Carroll, Russell Wilson regime of the Seahawks on the other hand, do this over and over again. I wouldn't blame you if you treated this as a stay away. But if you're betting on consistency, then you should fade America's team.

PICK: SEAHAWKS +2.5 on SportsInteraction (-110)

      Chargers vs Ravens

      Sunday January 6th, 1:05pm EST

A few weeks ago, the Chargers hosted the Ravens with a chance to be the frontrunner for the top seed in the AFC. The Ravens dominated the Chargers on both sides of the line of scrimmage and won fairly easily.

Here's why the Chargers can't win; Philip Rivers is a sitting target in the pocket. He's not mobile enough to avoid any pass rush, and is going to get sacked every time the Ravens blitz. And Melvin Gordon and Keenan Allen both look like they'll be playing at less than 100% against the defense that really hits hard.

However, having already seen the read option offense that the Ravens will employ, gives their defense a better shot at stopping it, I just can't see their offense doing enough. Lamar Jackson won't have to put up that many points to win.

PICK: RAVENS -2.5 on William Hill (-110)

      Eagles vs Bears

      Sunday January 6th, 4:40pm EST

Nick Foles left the Eagles week 17 game with sore ribs but we will operate under the assumption that he will play on Sunday vs the Bears, who are the reason the Eagles got into the playoffs.

Adam Gase who was on the coaching staff of the Superbowl winning Eagles team last season just did his old employers a solid by beating the Vikings in Minnesota in week 17 and opening the door for Philly.

Now Foles and company need to try and beat one of, if not, the best defense in football. I can't see the Eagles putting up 20 points in this game, but can the Bears score enough to cover a weird number for a playoff game? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say yes.

      PICK: BEARS -5 at 888sport (-110)
