NHL Predictions Tonight | November 14

There is only one game in the NHL tonight. The Tampa Bay Lightning travel to NY to play the Islanders. It’s Not exactly a marquee game, or a Stanley Cup finals preview. But Monday night hockey is Monday night hockey. It’s the only game we’ve got, so let’s enjoy it. If you can’t watch a game you love, love the game you’re watching.

    NHL Predictions For Tonight

The Tampa Bay Lightning @ The New York Islanders Prediction

BET TAMPA BAY (-130) The Islanders could really use a home win right now. They’re only a single point above last place, just over the Hurricanes at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. They’ve dropped 7 of their last 10 games. They’ve also won consecutive games only once all season. And that came a month ago when they beat the Sharks and Ducks in consecutive games.

On the other side of the ice, the Lightning have been poor-to-average. After dropping 4 straight games, they have “sort of” rebounded and split their last 6 games. But they seem unable to build any sort of momentum. The good news is their best hockey is ahead of them. The bad news is it may be tough to find it. They’re coming off a loss to The Sharks at home in a weak, single goal effort for the club.

Tampa has to put their last home loss behind them as they start a 5-game road trip against the Islanders, Wings, Sabres, Flyers and Predators. In fact, they only play two more home games for the rest of November. So they need to pick up wins anywhere they can get them. And the best place to get a win is early on in the road trip, against the weakest team.

A strong road trip would be huge for Tampa.  Despite their sluggish play, they’re only two points behind third-place Ottawa in the Atlantic Division and tied with the Detroit Red Wings for the final wild card spot. So picking up any 3 of these next 5 games would go a long way, and playing New York is the best chance they’re going to get.

But here’s the thing. The Islanders don’t suck on their home ice. In fact, all of their wins this season are home wins. They’re 5-3-2 at home this year, and just all kinds of awful on the road. So even though this is the most winnable road game for the Lightning, it’s far from a gimmie.

Most of their problem is NY’s defense. Only the Leafs and Flyers have given up more goals in the conference this season. Their offensive production has been decent enough, but not enough to compensate for the D.

Meanwhile, Tampa’s offense has been inconsistent, but still mustering just under 3 goals a game. However, they’ve been held to a single goal in 2 of their last 3 games. They’ve been pretty middle-of-the-pack, defensively, and they are giving up 2.7 goals per game. Neither team has a shutout this season.

Look for Tampa Bay to come out focused and hungry to start the road trip off on the right skate. However, The Islanders still have a fresh memory of losing to Tampa a few days ago, 4-1. And they’re on their home ice, so nothing will be given away. But still, we see The Lightning earning the road W tonight.
