2019 PGA Championship: Tiger hunts for history

From May 16-19 from the Bethpage Black golf course, in Long Island, New York, the 2019 PGA Championship takes center stage. This will be the 101st time this tournament is being held, and for the first time in a long time, there is a certain Mr. Tiger Woods who sits atop the world of golf.

Is this a short term phenomena or will Tiger take a run at Jack Nicklaus 18 Majors?

Several PGA Experts picked Tiger to never win another major again, yet handicappers have always slashed his odds due to overall public backing. Meaning that when people bet on him because of his name and reputation, there's no need to actually assign him a price congruent with his actual chances of winning.

2019 PGA Championship Preview, Odds, and Picks

When we discussed the Masters last month, I implored you to steer clear of Tiger Woods based on the fact that there was little value to be had in his price tag at +1400. Now whilst that was the wrong betting tip, it was wrong for the right reason.

And now that Tiger has finally won a major tournament again, he has 15 for his career, and is only 3 away from tying Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major tournaments. And where he excelled early in his career by being physically unmatchable on the golf course, the early 40s version of Tiger will be successful by being much more smarter and more cunning than his younger, more physically capable competition.

Tiger finished in 2nd in last year's PGA Championship. Furthermore, having won the US Open at Bethpage in 2002, this is a place where Tiger Woods knows he can succeed, even if he is a much different golfer today. However, his last start at Bethpage Black was in 2012 and it was a less than memorable, 38th place finish

But make no mistake; with regards to online Golf odds, there will be less value in betting Tiger Woods now than ever before in recent memory. See below the top sportsbooks where you can wager online and choose the best one for you:

Tiger opens as the overall favorite

At +700 for the PGA Championship Odds the recommendation remains to stay away from Tiger Woods. Sentiment aside, this is a suggestion based on the fact that there is little value in such a heavy favorite. But the heart wants what it wants and IF you want to put money on Tiger to enjoy the weekend a little more, who am I to tell you no?

But now on to some golfers we do like at the price being given.

By Official World Golf rankings, Justin Rose is currently the 2nd best golfer in the world. So far in 2019, he has 1 win and 4 more top 10 finishes in 8 events. The fact that he missed the cut at the Masters only makes me like him more as he will surely come into this major looking to make amends for what happened at Augusta. At +1600, Justin Rose is worth your consideration to win the PGA Championship 2019.

At +5000 the overall FedEx points leader Matt Kuchar feels like steal. He's playing the most golf and the most consistent golf of anyone. And though Kuchar is yet to win his first major, in the last 2 years he has four top 10 finishes in major tournaments. The 40 year olds, career is aging like a vintage wine. This could be his moment.

It does not however, look like it will be the moment for one Francesco Molinari, who at +1600 is a stay away. After his infamous implosion at the Masters, that opened the door for Tiger, he followed that up by immediately missing the cut the following week at the RBC. It may be a while before the 7th ranked golfer in the world corrects things. My PGA Championship pick is that he won't win it this time.

The last event of note played at Bethpage Black was the 2016 Barclays that was won by Patrick Reed. At +3300 Reed is a feast or famine golfer in majors. In his last nine major events Reed has missed the cut on three occasions, and has placed in the Top 5 in three others. His most notable of those was winning the 2018 Masters. This could be the wildcard that appears out of nowhere and earns online bettors a huge smash and grab.

      About Bethpage Black

Bethpage Black was voted by Golf Digest to be the 6th most difficult Golf Course in America. With a Total purse  of $10,500,000 whomever pulls out the PGA Championship will earn a massive payday.

The last two majors to be played there were the 2002 and 2009 US Opens, where the winner's posted scores of -3 and -4. So this could wind up being another war of attrition.
