Rangers at Canadiens NHL Week 11

This is a must-win. Seriously, if they're going to salvage anything to start this season they need to pick up a home victory against another struggling team. The New York Rangers were another team that went deep into the playoffs only year, only to fall deep into the seller of the standings in the NHL. which one of these hot messes will take the victory?

Prediction: The Montreal Canadiens at Sports Interaction

I have to give this game to Montreal, or we are a lot worse off than we imagined. Pride needs to be a factor at some point. Heart needs to be called on at some point. And basic talent needs to reveal itself. Montreal threw up another stinker performance by being shut out by the LA Kings. The Kings have been nothing short of awesome this year, granted, but it was still another non-goal scoring game. Montreal is about to go out on the road, so they absolutely have to get this win. I feel like they know that, and I feel like they will get it.

Previewing Habs games has gotten very repetitive. Need to score blah blah blah. The season is in jeopardy, but not over yet blah blah blah. There's a reason for that. Montreal is by far the worst offensive team in the National Hockey League. The Habs are scoring 1.7 goals per game this season. I mean come on! And their defensive struggles have been palpable. Despite the fact they have the most talented goalie in the NHL, they are still giving up 3.8 goals per game and rank second last overall. I suppose you could look at it optimistically. There is literally no area where you can't improve! But that's hogwash. This team has sucked so far and the whole they have dug is getting deeper and deeper.

Meanwhile, in Gotham, The New York Rangers are not exactly killing it either. They only have 3 wins in 11 games, and they are tied with the Buffalo Sabres for second worst in the Eastern Conference. Both of them being ahead of the Canadians. The Rangers are scoring 2.73 goals per game. Not exactly filling the nets up. But they're an All-Star team compared to Montreal. Defensively, they rank ninth overall, and they are giving up 3.36 goals per game. They are coming into tonight's game with just a hint of momentum, winning their last game at home against the god-awful Phoenix Coyotes, by a score of 5 to 2. It was pretty rough before that.

Went two struggling teams go at it, like this, it actually comes down to who takes the game more seriously. It's a funny thing, both of these teams think they're a lot better than they really are. It's possible both teams are looking at this as a very winnable game and just what the doctor ordered. When in fact, both of these teams should be coming out tonight with a fiery intensity and see this as a game they have to win. Both of these teams in their minds probably still have playoff aspirations, despite the piss-poor start. I predict Montreal will take care of their home ice tonight, and go out on the road, with their wounds only slightly cauterized.
