Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup Odds 2017

Roughriders Odds To Win The Grey Cup

Over the last two seasons, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have gone 8-28, the worst record in the Canadian Football League over that span. The Roughriders had a busy offseason in 2016, but only managed to see a two-win improvement. Because of the minimal change, the Roughriders were once again busy in the offseason. They made headlines when they signed former NFL quarterback Vince Young and CFL veteran Kevin Glenn. However, neither player was their best signing. That honour goes to Derek Dennis – the 2016 recipient of the CFL’s most outstanding lineman award. Dennis and the always-entertaining return man/wide receiver Chad Owens should help spark some life into an offense that ranked last in the CFL in 2016.

After two down years, both the team and the fans expect the Roughriders to rebound in 2017 and return to the playoffs. The Roughriders – over the last two offseasons - have overhauled the franchise, which began with the hiring of Chip Jones last year. While Jones is an excellent coach, he has not done enough to address the quarterback situation in Regina. Both Vince Young and Kevin Glenn, their two big name quarterback signing, are on the wrong side of 30 and are either going to be very rusty (Young) or are passed their prime (Glenn). If either manages to shine in the preseason and take control of the team, then the Roughriders should be in for a good year in 2017. If both struggle, then neither QB or Jones may have a job come this Fall.

    Sports Interaction Grey Cup Outright

The Roughriders are not getting a lot of love from the sportsbook in 2017. Their +750 odds ties them for the worst Grey Cup odds in the Western Division and the second worst Grey Cup odds overall. Even though the Riders added some key players in the offseason, it is too hard to look passed the situation at quarterback. The logjam behind centre has left a lot of mystery around the Riders. Though the situation may sort itself out over training camp and the preseason, until there is a clear picture, they are not a serious Grey Cup favourite.

    Saskatchewan Roughriders 2017 Schedule

The Roughriders open the 2017 season in Montreal on June 22 at 7:30 PM EST. Both the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes enter 2017 with low to moderate expectations – meaning this game does quite pack the punch of the rest of the week’s game. Still, for fans of the two franchises, this match-up always brings some excitement, as the two teams met in back-to-back Grey Cups (2009 and 2010) where Montreal won both by a combined four points. Another point of intrigue will be Darian Durant facing his former team. Durant had spent the previous ten seasons with the Riders and, although his return to Saskatchewan in week 19 will be more emotional, it will provide plenty of interest and storyline before and during the game.

After opening the season on the road, the Roughriders head home to face Winnipeg (in what will be Winnipeg’s first game of the season) and Hamilton, finishing up the first four weeks of the season their first bye week. After an easy start to the season, the Roughriders get into the thick of it within their division. This part of their schedule includes two home-and-homes – one against the BC Lions in August and the other against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in September. From week 12 – the road half of their back-to-back against Winnipeg – to week 16 the Riders play four of five games on the road. They finish up the 2017 regular season with three of their last four at home.
