Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns NFL Week 9 Thursday Night Football

Cincinnati Bengals: Looking to build on franchise best start

Following a hard fought 16-10 come-from-behind win in Pittsburgh last weekend, Cincinnati is 7-0 for the first time in franchise history. The Bengals were 6-0 twice before but a 30-24 home loss to the Steelers in 1975 and a 27-21 defeat on the road to the Patriots in 1988 derailed their previous attempts at a perfect season. Solid on both sides of the ball, the Bengals have scored the sixth most points at 198 while their 132 points allowed is the fifth lowest mark in the league. The Cats return home for the first time since Week 5 as their game last Sunday was proceeded by a bye week and a 34-21 bashing of the Bills in Buffalo back in Week 6 action. We like the battle tested Bengals.

Cleveland Browns: Injuries have crushed the Brownies early season optimism

Playing decent football en-route to a 2-3 early season record, Cleveland looked like they may have finally started to turn the corner on their losing ways. Even though they dropped to 2-4, after a 26-23 home loss in overtime to Denver, things were still pointing up for the Browns. Following a rash of injuries, plus 24-6 and 34-20 losses to the Rams and Cardinals respectively, Cleveland looks like Cleveland again as their 2-6 record is the fourth worst mark in the NFL. Offensive starters QB Josh McCown, WR Andrew Hawkins and WR Brian Hartline, plus defensive stars SS Donte Whitner and CB Joe Hadden, have all been ruled out for this contest. The Brownies are in tough here.

Cleveland vs Cincinnati Call: Now with his sixth NFL team, McCown was well on his way to setting career highs across the board – and he still may as his rib injury is a week-to-week issue. In the here and now however, clown-like QB Johnny Manziel will be under center for the Browns tonight and that has disaster written all over it. The last time he faced Cincinnati, Johnny Party completed 10 of 18 passes for 80 yards and two interceptions, plus he was sacked three times, during a 30-0 beatdown by the Bengals in Week 15 last season. While a repeat performance won’t surprise us, we are going to buy some points in this contest. Back the Bengals with a 500 unit wager on the -6.5 alternate spread price posted on the betting board at the Bet365 online sportsbook.
