Growing up a Tigers fan - while Dad was an Orioles fan - this ALDS brings back a flood of fond memories for yours truly. Despite moving to the AL Central division in 1988 Detroit has played Baltimore the fourth most of any team in the Majors as the two teams have clashed 2,003 times dating back to 1901. Detroit won the 2014 season series 5-1 as the Cats outscored the Orioles by a combined 33-20 count. It should be noted that the season series was over early (May 14) and was played before Baltimore started to establish their AL East winning ways. Tigers RHP Max Scherzer (18-5 ERA 3.15) battles Orioles RHP Chris Tillman (16-3 ERA 3.34) in series opener at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland. We like the Cats in this contest.
Kansas City vs Anaheim: Upstart Royals face stacked Angels squad
Though their rivalry only dates back to the 1969 MLB season, the Royals and Angeles have a lot of history between them as they have met 556 times with most of the games being played when both clubs were in the old American League West. These clubs split their 2014 season series 3-3 with the road team earning 2-1 wins in both series. LA outscored KC 30-27 and neither team won more than one in a row. Angles ace RHP Jered Weaver (18-9 ERA 3.59) is up against Royals veteran RHP Jason Vargas (11-10 ERA 3.71) in this battle that will play out at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. KC has been in playoff style games since the All Star break and earned a Wild Card spot while the Halos cruised to a ten game AL West romp over Oakland.
