Cincinnati Reds NLC Leaders: No Votto - No Problem
Many Reds fans felt they had been kicked in the heart when All-Star first basemen Joey Votto went down with a knee injury and was placed on the DL on July 17. While it's tough the get along without a .324 hitter, Cincinnati hasn't missed a beat without their Canadian stud in the lineup. The Big Red Machine continues to roll as they are 6-2 post Votto injury (he will be back mid-August or so) and have a 1.5 game lead over the Pirates in the NL Central. Cincy starter Mike Leake (3-6 4.25 ERA) is better than his stat line indicates.

Being a fan of the big four Detroit sports teams my entire life - yours truly has had to cheer for some pretty bad teams. That said, I still can't relate to what the fans in Houston are dealing with lately when it comes to their Astros. After posting a 56-106 record in 2011, the 'Stros are on pace to set another new watermark low as they are 34-63 so far this season. Houston is 2-20 since June 28, and 1-9 since the All-Star break - with seven straight loses. Lucas Harrell (7-7 4.24 ERA) heads to hill as the Astros look to end their slide.
