Chicago vs St. Louis: Cardinals Inch Closer to NL Central Title
Red Birds aim to get Adam Wainright to 20 victories
In addition to closing in on the National League Central Division pennant, St. Louis is looking to get their ace Adam Wainright (19-9 ERA 2.45) his 20th win of the season tonight. That’s the high water mark in Major League Baseball these days and Wainright will join Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw as the first two, and probably the only two pitchers, to reach that plateau this season. The Cardinals, who close their regular season schedule with six straight road games, have a slim 2.5 game lead on Pittsburgh and they have posted a 14-6 record in September. Baseball is a team sport and everyone enjoys a teammates success. The Dodgers delivered Kershaw his 20th win versus the Cubs on Friday and the Red Birds will follow suit.
Chicago Cubs late season Windy City swoon continues to swirl
Winners of just five of their last 16 contests, Chicago (69-87) is playing out the string on a nasty season. The Cubs just dropped a 3-1 series to the Dodgers and were outscored 30-14 in the three loses. LHP Travis Wood (8-12 ERA 4.86) has the unenviable task of trying to match Wainright in this contest. Wood gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings pitched on August 31 in a game played at Busch Stadium. Wood was blown out in 1.2 innings of a 10-4 loss to Pittsburgh before rebounding with six scoreless innings in a Cubs 1-0 win over Cincinnati in his two September starts. With the Cubbies MLB 27th worst team batting average behind him - we don’t see a W for Wood. Soar with the playoff bound Red Birds here.
MLB Prediction: Expecting to pay a higher price here, we’ll happily load up on the Cardinals money line price posted at the SportsBetting.ag on sportsbook. Anything under a -200 ML would have sufficed so we’ll bank a return that’s a little over 50% with a 1000 unit straight wager on Wainright & Crew in this contest.
