Los Angeles Dodgers: NL West Title chase begins
Try as we may, we can't remember the last time a blockbuster MLB trade went down this late in the season. Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, Nick Punto, and pitcher Josh Beckett, have traded in their Red Sox for Dodger Blue. Gonzo has already paid dividends as he had three hits, one a home run, and drove in four runs in two weekend games. Beckett (5-11 ERA 5.23) gets his first Dodgers start tonight.
Colorado Rockies: Stumbling towards a third straight losing season
It's been another long season in the Rocks as Colorado is sporting a 51-75 record - good for dead last in the National League West. That said, a recent 10-4 run over MLB cellar dwellers is a slight cause for concern here. Once a stud back in 2007, but more of a dud recently, LHP Jeff Francis (4-4 ERA 5.79) gets the call for the Rockies in this one. Francis has given up 29 runs in his last 38 innings pitched.
