In a heated Western Conference playoff race with the equally hot Nashville Predators, St. Louis has posted a 14-3-1 record during the new calendar year. The Blues have been enjoying some South Beach sunshine as they haven't played since they lit up the Lightning during a 6-3 thrashing in Tampa Bay on Thursday night.
Florida Panthers: Scratching and clawing in the Eastern Conference postseason chase
While teams like the Predators, Islanders, and Flames have been stealing the comeback team of the year spotlight, the Panthers are having a turn-around season of their own. After posting a 29-45-8 record last year, good for second last overall in the East, Florida is just four points behind Boston for the eighth and final playoff position. The Panthers are back on their home pond at the BB&T Center after dropping a pair of road contests in Minnesota (2-1) on Thursday and Dallas (2-0) on Friday.
Blues vs Panthers Prediction: It's not difficult to pin-point the main reason behind the Panthers success this year. Florida posted a -72 GF/GA differential last season but the arrival of goaltender Roberto Luongo has changed that as the Cats are a respectable -17 heading into action today. That number would be even better if the Panthers could improve on their 2.39 GPG average which is 25th overall in the NHL. Tempted by the puck line here, but understanding that Luongo can steal a game on his own, we will back the Blues with a 400 unit wager on the Bet365 money line price.
