Lightning and Sabres Ring in the New Year in New York

Tampa Bay: Head out on the road on a winning streak

Following a sluggish 4-5-2 run to open December, Tampa Bay looks to close out the month on a four game winning streak. The Lightning went 3-0 during a recent homestand as they posted wins over Pittsburgh (4-3) Carolina (2-1) and Toronto (3-2) to keep pace with Montreal in the race for first place in the East. Tampa Bay (23-11-4) battles Buffalo for the third time in 14 games after the Sabres won the opener of a home and home series 2-1 (SO) in Buffalo but were bashed 5-0 by the Bolts in Florida on December 2nd and 4th respectively.

Buffalo Sabres: Surprisingly competitive on their home pond recently

Since November 15, Buffalo has posted an impressive 9-2-0 record on their home pond at the First Niagara Center. It hasn't done them much good though as the Sabres are 14-20-3 and sit eleven points out of a Wild Card playoff position. After a recent 10-3 run, Buffalo posted a 1-1-4 record and have been outscored 28-14 in their last six games. While strong goaltending helped during their winning streak, there was also some smoke and mirrors as Buffalo still sits last in the NHL with 1.86 goals and 35.7 shots allowed per game averages.

Lightning vs Sabres Prediction: As with the trend above, in their first two meetings the Bolts outshot the Sabres by a 62-35 margin. Tampa was playing on back-to-back nights the last time they visited Buffalo so they will be a little more rested for this tilt. Terribly tempted by the puck line price, we are going to load up on the visitors money line and back Tampa Bay with the 1000 unit wager at the Bet365 online sportsbook.
