MLB AL West Game Day Preview: Houston vs Los Angeles
Looking to build on their first playoff appearance, after a nine-year drought, Houston stumbled out of the starting gate as the Astros opened the 2016 MLB season with a 24-29 record. Houston is on quite a roll recently though as the ‘Stros are 10-2 over their past twelve contests. Those numbers include 4-2 and 7-1 wins against the Angeles during the first two games of this mid-week series.
Struggling through the first three months of the season, Los Angeles will be out of the MLB playoff race by the time they hit the All-Star break. The Angels hovered around the .500 mark during April and May but June has been a disaster as the Halo’s are on an 8-18 slide this month. Mirror opposite to Houston's recent run, Los Angeles has posted just one victory during their last nine contests.

Far from his 2015 AL Cy Young Award winning form, LHP Dallas Keuchel (4-9 ERA 5.26) heads to the hill for Houston today. After giving up 64 earned runs, over 232 innings of work last season, Keuchel has allowed 59 runs during 101 innings this year. Keuchel has been “better” recently as he allowed five earned runs, over 13.1 innings, during 5-4 (11) and 13-4 Houston victories.
A former ace himself, after finishing tied for the AL lead with 16 wins in 2014, RHP Jered Weaver (6-6 ERA 5.24) makes his 16th start for the Halo’s here. Weaver has been all over the map as he has allowed three runs or less (ten total) during seven starts - but he’s been bashed about for 42 runs during the other eight outings. We like the hotter hitting Astros to sweep the Angeles here.
