Los Angeles vs Chicago: Dodgers Aim to Crush the Cubs Again
Dodgers Clayton Kershaw is first to 20 MLB wins
After riding "The Krushinator" gravy train all season - we're not going to get off now. LHP Clayton Kershaw (19-3 ERA 1.70) looks to become MLB's first 20-game winner this season as he heads to bump versus Chicago today. The man is a pitching machine and the Dodgers have recorded wins in 18 of his last 19 starts. Over that span, Los Angeles has outscored their opponents by a 87-28 combined final count. It gets even better as Kershaw has allowed just 21 earned runs and he's pitched 150 innings during the 19-game stretch. The numbers are astounding and Kershaw is the best pitcher on the planet today - maybe of all-time.
Chicago Cubs: Need more than big shoulders in this matinee clash
From the 1916 Carl Sandburg poem, Chicago is the "Stormy, husky, brawling, City of the big shoulders" but that's hard to tell when looking at the Cubs. Already assured of a fifth straight losing season, Chicago (68-85) gets their only shot at Kershaw this year. The Cubbies actually beat the Dodgers 3-2 the only time they faced Kershaw last season - a contest where Kershaw lasted only 5.2 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits on August 27, 2013. So there is some hope in the Windy City - though truly misguided.
MLB Prediction: We love the fact that the Dodgers are still in a tight playoff race. While a sweep of any MLB team is a tall order, especially on the road for a four game set, a 2-0 series lead seems eminent here.
