Marlins vs Reds: Struggling Squads Clash as Miami Hosts Cincinnati
Cincinnati Reds: Aim to avenge their Saturday blowout
Following a pair of close contests to begin this series, the Marlins won the opener 2-0 and the Reds posted a 1-0 victory on Friday, Cincinnati had a meltdown as they were thrashed 14-3 yesterday. Six Reds pitchers combined to give up 21 hits including the ten hits Miami posted during an eight run seventh inning when the Marlins sent 14 batters to the plate. RHP Johnny Cueto (6-5 ERA 2.61) looks to cool the Miami bats when he heads to the bump in this matinee meeting today.
Miami Marllins: Ripping the Reds had a high cost for the struggling Fish
Already without slugger Giancarlo Stanton, Miami lost All-Star Dee Gordon to a dislocated thumb injury yesterday. Leading the Marlins with 122 hits and 33 stolen bases, while batting in the leadoff spot, Gordon is an all around stud and he will be missed in South Beach. Sitting with a 37-51 record, Miami is eleven games behind Washington in the NL East and ten games out of the Wild Card race. Stanton and Gordon have scored 93 of Miami’s MLB 26th ranked 308 runs this season.
Reds vs Marlins MLB Call: Miami will send out RHP Dan Haren (6-5 ERA 3.34) to face Cueto in the battle on the bump today. Cueto has been lights out allowing just one run, on six hits with 19 strikeouts over 17 innings pitched during his two starts in July. Haren has been decent but he hasn’t recorded a win since Miami cruised by the Cubs with a 7-3 win on June 3. More about Cueto than anything else here, we’ll back the Reds with a 300 unit wager on the Cincinnati money line price posted at the UWIN online sportsbook.
