Milwaukee vs Toronto: Hot Brew Crew Battle Faltering Blue Jays
Fiers has been a good fit filling in for injured Garza
Following a well deserved day off on Monday, after they completed a three-game sweep of NL West division leading Los Angeles over the weekend, Milwaukee is back home looking for a fifth straight win tonight. The Brewers (70-55) own a 2.5 game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central playoff race as they send RHP Mike Fiers (2-1 ERA 1.29) to the hill to battle the Blue Jays. Fiers has filled in nicely for injured Brewers ace Matt Garza as he has allowed two runs and recorded 19 strikeouts over 14 innings during two fill-in starts.
Toronto Blue Jays: Have gone from the penthouse to the outhouse
July 1, 2014, seems like eons ago for Toronto as the Blue Jays were riding high in first place in the AL East playoff race on that date. Fast forward to the present and, thanks to a miserable 4-11 August run, the Jays find themselves eight games back of Baltimore and 3.5 games out of the American League Wild Card race. Though he has been decent recently, LHP J.A. Happ (8-7 ERA 4.20) hasn’t received much support from the Jays offense as Toronto has scored just five runs in Happ’s three August starts – all Blue Jays loses.
