New York Giants: Looking to further muddy the NFC East mess
Following Week 14 wins by Washington and Philadelphia - New York (5-7) needs a victory to match the 6-7 record the Redskins and Eagles are sporting in the NFC East. Since moving to 3-2, thanks to a three-game winning streak, the Giants have regressed as they are just 2-5 recently - including three straight losses. That said, the G-Men have kept their games close as 3, 1, 6 and 3 points are the margins of their last four losses. On the other side of the coin, New York has been lousy at finishing games as they have let leads slip away during five of seven losses. That includes 20-10 leads they had versus the Patriots in Week 11 and the Jets last Sunday. The 23-20 (OT) loss to Gang Green was particularly brutal as the Jets scored twice with under five minutes left in the game.
Miami Dolphins: Facing a seventh non-winning season in South Beach
Once the darlings of Monday Night Football, the Dolphins 78 MNF appearances is the most in NFL history, Miami hasn’t done much to deserve the national spotlight recently. The largely dismal Dolphins need to win out in order to avoid a seventh straight non-winning season and keep their "remote at best" playoff hopes alive. A victory would move Miami into a group of four teams that own a 6-8 record but they would still trail the Chiefs, Jets and Steelers who are 8-6 and currently leading the AFC Wild Card race. A combination of injuries and a lack of talent has harpooned the Dolphins but they are coming off a 15-13 win over Baltimore last weekend. That’s despite the fact QB Ryan Tannehill completed nine of his 16 passes for just 86 total passing yards. Miami is 24th overall as they have allowed 255.6 pass yards per game on defense. The 'Fins are finished.
New York vs Miami NFL Week 14 Prediction: We mentioned the Dolphins pass defense due to the fact that their lowly numbers have come against just one top-ten passing offence and they were smoked 36-7 in that contest by Tom Brady and the Patriots. QB Eli Manning to WR Odell Beckham Jr. will be a common theme in this contest tonight. The Giants have the worst pass defense in the NFL but they should be able to contain Tannehill who is without his second favorite target WR Rishard Matthews who won’t suit up tonight.
