San Jose vs Carolina: Hurricanes Blow into the Shark Tank in California
Sharks wake up call in Cowtown leads to a rout in Vancouver
While they should not have needed it, San Jose got a bit of wake-up call in Calgary as the Flames burned the Sharks 3-1 on Wednesday. That loss temporarily moved Calgary ahead of San Jose in the Western Conference playoff race. Understanding they need to play better, the Sharks rolled in Vancouver and crushed the Canucks 5-1 to slide back into second place in the Pacific Division. On a 6-2-2 recent run, and as a veteran squad, San Jose knows that every point counts moving forward.
Carolina Hurricanes are barely a light mist hovering over the NHL cellar
Though they have played better recently, a very long season is nearing an end in Carolina. The Hurricanes were dealt a bad hand right out of the gate as injuries were a big part their 0-6-2 season start. The New Year has been like a new start for Carolina as they have earned at least one point in eleven of their 14 games in 2015. Despite that 8-3-3 run, the Hurricanes are still second last in the East and 23 points out of a playoff position. Carolina plays the last of a four game road trip tonight and they are coming off a 2-1 shootout win in Arizona. We sense a blowout here.
