William Hill Haskell Invitational Stakes 2015 Ruler of the Racetrack Returns

William Hill Haskell Invitational Stakes 2015 Ruler of the Racetrack Returns
Excitement is building for the 2015 William Hill G1 Haskell Invitational this weekend as the Ruler of the Racetrack has returned. Running in his first race since he crushed the field during the 147th Belmont Stakes, becoming just the 12th Triple Crown winner, American Pharoah will be back on the dirt at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey, on Sunday. A field of eight horses will line up for the 48th running of the Haskell Invitational with post-time slated for 5:52 PM ET on August 2, 2015.

American Pharoah: Post-Triple Crown debut ignites New Jersey

Garnering “Rock-Star” attention, American Pharoah received a New Jersey State Police escort from the Atlantic City International Airport to Monmouth Park on Wednesday. Aiming to win his eighth straight race, American Pharoah is monstar chalk to capture the William Hill sponsored G1 Haskell Invitational on Sunday. Wanting an up close and personal look at the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed ruled in 1978, record crowds are expected at “The Shore’s Greatest Stretch” on Sunday. We’ve been following this super-horse since he blew away Arkansas Derby field and the Ruler of the Racetrack has proven time and again that he is indeed “one special horse”.

Keen Ice and Upstart: Triple Crown shooters take another shot at the Champion

Carrying a purse that has swelled to USD $1.75 million, it’s not difficult to understand why Triple Crown shooters Keen Ice and Upstart have entered the Haskell Invitational. Largely due to a bad trip, Keen Ice finished seventh in the Run for the Roses prior to a third place run during the Belmont Stakes. Upstart didn’t get up during the Kentucky Derby as he went off with 15/1 odds out of PP#19 but finished dead last overall. Competitive Edge, Top Clearance, Don’tbetwithbruno and Mr Jordan round out the field of eight horses. While they are all special in their own separate ways, none of these horses are breathing the same air American Pharoah is enjoying.

Haskell Invitational Summary: Fully aware of the “any given Sunday” mantra – we can’t see any of these horses knocking off the Triple Crown Champ. Zayat Stables group is aiming for their second victory in the Haskell Invitational after they won with Paynter back in 2012. Jockey Victor Espinoza claimed his only Haskell trophy onboard War Emblem way back in 2002 while trainer Bob Baffert is looking to add to his record seven wins in this Jersey Shore classic. Baffert is also aiming to go back-to-back as Bayern romped to a 7 1/4 length wire-to-wire win last year. We will be back on race day with our official track odds selection but, in the meantime, here are Haskell Invitational futures odds posted at the William Hill online racebook.
